No. Film applied to a home is an improvement to real property under F.A.C. 12A-1.051 rather than a sale of goods, so no sales tax is added to the customer's invoice. Vehicle tint is taxed at the full rate.

Does window film give privacy at night?

No. Reflective film gives daytime privacy because the outside is brighter than the inside. Once your lights are on after dark that reverses and the effect is lost. Frosted film is the option that works at all hours.

Will window film stop my floors and furniture fading?

It removes effectively all the ultraviolet light, which is the single largest contributor. Heat and visible light also cause fading, so film reduces it substantially rather than stopping it completely.

Most people call us about one room. The one that is ten degrees warmer than the rest of the house by four in the afternoon, or the one with a television nobody can see half the day, or the one where the floor by the slider has gone a different colour to the floor everywhere else.

Those are three symptoms of the same thing, and film fixes them without you giving up the view, which is the reason you have the glass in the first place.

What it actually changes

Heat. The film stops a large share of solar energy at the glass rather than letting it into the room. The practical result is that the hot room stops being the hot room and the system stops running to fix it.
Glare. Screens, kitchens that face the afternoon, and anywhere with water out the window throwing light back at you.
Fading. Quality film blocks effectively all the ultraviolet. UV is not the only cause of fading, heat and visible light do their share, but it is the one you can remove outright.
Privacy. Reflective during the day, or frosted where you want it permanent. Worth being told plainly: a film that gives you daytime privacy does not give you night-time privacy, because the bright side changes once your lights are on. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling.

Condos and rentals

Two things worth knowing before you commit. Many beachfront associations specify what the glass may look like from outside, so check the rules before choosing a reflective film; we can usually work inside them. And if the unit is rented, film is one of the few upgrades that lowers a running cost without a tenant having to do anything.
