Safety and security film
Safety and security film, Panama City
Ordinary glass fails the same way every time. It goes from a pane to a thousand pieces in the room, and almost all of the harm, whether that is a storm, a burglary or somebody falling against it, happens after the break rather than during it.
Safety film does one job: it holds the pane together. A thick layer bonded across the whole surface so that when the glass breaks it stays stuck to the film, and the film stays in the frame.
What it is honestly good for
- Storm debris. Hurricane season runs from June to the end of November here and the thing that breaks a window is rarely the wind, it is what the wind picks up. Film keeps a punctured pane in its opening rather than letting it go.
- Smash and grab. It is not impenetrable and we will not pretend otherwise. What it does is turn one swing into sustained, loud, visible work, which is usually enough.
- Glass people walk into. Shopfronts, schools, sliders at floor level, anywhere a fall could put somebody through a pane.
What it is not
It is not impact glazing and it is not a substitute for shutters. A film on an ordinary pane in an ordinary frame is still an ordinary frame. Where the opening has to meet a code requirement, that is a glazing job and we will tell you so rather than sell you film that does not satisfy it. We would rather lose the quote than have you believe you are covered when you are not.
Attachment is the part that matters
Film on the glass alone will hold the pieces together and can still let the whole sheet leave the frame under pressure. Where that matters we bond the film edge to the frame as well, which is a different specification and a different price, and it is worth asking about rather than assuming.
Where we fit it most
Storefronts on 98 and 23rd, schools and churches, ground-floor condo glass, pharmacy and cash-handling counters, and homes where a slider faces open ground.
We quote security film on site because the frame matters as much as the glass. Call 850-785-8468 or use the contact page. It is often specified alongside solar film on the same building.
